In case you haven’t noticed, GMC focuses on SUVs and trucks of all sizes. While trucks are often valued tools on the worksite, when brought home, along with the SUVs they can offer great opportunities for family fun and adventure. U.S. News & World Report noticed this versatility, and the Dieffenbach GM Superstore is pleased to announce that GMC secured eight different wins in the publication's first "Best Adventure Vehicles" awards, in turn making GMC perhaps the most well-known brand amongst the results.

Best Vehicles for Road Tripping

This is a big country with a wide variety of landscapes, tour destinations, cultures, and food, and the best way to experience it is on the road. U.S. News assessed more than 120 models across 16 vehicle categories and selected the top road-trip vehicle in each segment. Their selections were based on factors such as cargo capacity, fuel efficiency, passenger capacity, and safety ratings. The final scores also consider expert opinions and firsthand experiences, along with each model's U.S. News Rating, which plays a significant role in the overall evaluation. “GMC must have the secret formula for great road-trip vehicles,” editors said, noting the brand's top honors in four different categories:

  • Best Midsize SUV – GMC Acadia
The Arcadia was lauded for its road-trip-friendly standard features such as heated front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, and adaptive cruise control.  “The cargo hold is massive, especially with some seats folded, and clever storage solutions throughout the interior bolster this GMC's appeal as a road-tripper.”
  • Best Large SUV – GMC Yukon XL
With more room than just about anything on the market, the Yukon XL was recognized for seating eight, all of which can accommodate passengers of any size, and for the largest cargo hold in the business. Beyond its size, the Yukon was described as “Its ride is refined, and tech and safety features like a 16.8-inch touch screen, wireless smartphone integration, tri-zone automatic climate control and rain-sensing windshield wipers add to the experience.”
  • Best Midsize Pickup – GMC Canyon
The Canyon earned its win thanks to class-leading towing capacity, standard features like the 11.3-inch screen and both spacious and comfortable front seating.
  • Best Electric Pickup – GMC Sierra EV
As EVs are now candidates for efficient road-tripping, the Sierra EV was first recognized for its long maximum range of 478 miles. A spacious cabin for five occupants, along with standard features like synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 16.8-inch touch screen, and automatic emergency braking, also helped Sierra EV secure a win.

Best Vehicles for Camping

A popular subset of the road trip is the camping trip, in which all your accommodations for cooking, sleeping, and just plain hanging out are either packed in the cargo hold or towed behind. The same four GMC vehicles cited for road tripping honors also topped their categories as camping companions.

  • Best Midsize SUV – GMC Acadia
Citing its spacious cabin again, U.S. News states that “…the Acadia is among the very best for second- and third-row seating capacity.” Its 5,000-pound towing capacity was a contributing factor, as were its roster of family-friendly features, including tri-zone climate control and household-format power outlets.
  • Best Large SUV – Yukon XL
With plenty of space for people and gear, the Yukon XL stands out with its remarkable 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third-row seats and 93.8 cubic feet when the third row is not needed. Its tow rating of up to 8400 pounds was also a factor, along with the choice of a gas V-8 or a turbodiesel engine to provide the extra power needed for towing something spacious.
  • Best Midsize Pickup – GMC Canyon
A cargo bed can be very useful for hauling camping and related recreational equipment, but the mid-size Canyon also stood out from the competition for its cabin space, standard features, and class-leading 7,700-pound towing capacity.
  • Best Electric Pickup – GMC Sierra EV
Camping in EVs is a relatively new phenomenon, but the Sierra EV stood out for both its potential 478-mile range and its ability to tow up to 12,500 pounds. Even without towing, the Sierra EV is likely to have capacity for passengers and their gear, thanks to a 2,250-pound payload rating. The standard MultiPro tailgate also makes cargo hauling more convenient. A well-charged Sierra EV can even provide days of quiet power at a campsite.
