The 2026 GMC Hummer EV Truck vs. the Competition

The Tesla Cybertruck is even newer than the GMC Hummer EV. However, its polarizing design, expensive launch models, frequent recalls, numerous instances of the vehicle failing to meet manufacturer claims, and other issues have hindered its ability to achieve mass appeal. Like the Hummer EV, the Cybertruck is for buyers drawn to the apex of the segment, where power and capability are prized over frugality. 2026 brings a lower-priced dual-motor model and an overall $15,000 price cut due to lagging sales. Together, they bring the 2026 Cybertruck’s entry MSRP to $72,235.

• The new Long-range RWD model has reduced the Cybertruck’s standard horsepower to 315.  This is considerably lower than the Hummer’s 557 hp.  However, for price-comparable models, the horsepower advantage goes to Tesla (593 hp), but the torque advantage goes to Hummer (557 lb.-ft.).
• The range-topping Hummer EV 3X offers a whopping 1,000 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque, eclipsing the Cybertruck’s 834 hp and 740 lb-ft. 
• At 200 kWh, the Hummer EV’s standard battery pack is significantly larger than the Cybertruck’s (123 kWh).
• GMC offers a much stronger on-board charger on the Hummer EV (19.2 kW vs. 11.5 kW).
• The Hummer EV’s premium cabin is more befitting of its high price tag than the more spartan Cybertruck’s. 
• Every GMC model, including Hummers, is available with OnStar guidance.  
• The GMC Hummer EV is available with a removable T-top roof, unlike Tesla models. 
• The Hummer EV offers more interior cargo space than the Tesla Cybertruck (11.3 cubic feet vs. 7.1 cubic feet).
• The GMC Hummer EV’s more conventional bed style more readily accommodates large, boxy items and makes it easier to access them from the ground on the side. 
• The Hummer EV comes standard with 22-inch alloy wheels (vs. 20-inch wheels on the Cybertruck). 
• The Hummer EV offers a rubberized cargo mat for easy cleaning.
• A cargo area light is also standard on the Hummer EV; the Cybertruck has none. 
• GM offers standard Bose Audio in the Hummer EV, which can be optioned with in-bed speakers. This audio setup is not available on the Cybertruck.
• The Hummer EV offers a conventional push-button start versus the “always-on” Cybertruck. 
• The Hummer EV offers a rear-seat reminder system and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage. 
• The GMC Hummer EV is available with the MultiPro tailgate, which is not found on its competitors.

Like Hummer, Rivian produces one pickup truck and one SUV on the same EV platform. The Rivian R1T is now considered part of the “old guard” of electric pickups. First released in 2021, the R1T was updated in 2025 to help it keep up with its competitors. It is more of a mid-size truck than the full-size Hummer or Tesla. For 2026, Rivian introduces a new quad-motor powertrain, with a motor at each wheel, collectively producing 1025 horsepower.

• The standard GMC Hummer EV offers a bit more power than the base Rivian R1T (570 hp vs. 533), but Rivian has the advantage in standard torque, with 610 lb-ft to the Hummer’s 557 lb-ft. 
• The Hummer EV’s standard battery pack is much larger than the R1T’s, offering 200 kWh (vs. 92.5 kWh).
• The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard battery pack is also larger than the largest available battery pack in the R1T (140 kWh) 
• GMC offers a much stronger on-board charger on the Hummer EV (19.2 kW vs. 11.5 kW).
• The GMC Hummer EV can be optioned with locking front and rear differentials for improved off-road performance.
• Despite its size, the Hummer EV offers a smaller standard turning circle of just 44.3 feet, vs. 44.9 for the Rivian, making it slightly easier to park and maneuver. 
• The GMC Hummer EV Pickup offers more interior space in every category, except second-row headroom, where the Rivian leads by just under an inch. 
• GMC’s standard 60.1-inch bed is longer than Rivian’s standard 54.1-inch bed.  
• GMC offers premium Bose audio as standard equipment in the Hummer EV, while Rivian charges extra for a Dolby audio system. 
• The standard ventilated disc brakes on the GMC Hummer EV are larger, both front and rear. 
• The GMC Hummer EV comes standard with a fully automated parking system. 
• GMC offers remote engine start on the standard Hummer EV, which is not available on the Rivian R1T.
• The GMC Hummer EV is available with the MultiPro tailgate, which is not found on its competitors.
